The power of personal communication

Personal communication strengthens customer relationships. Small adjustments in language and tone make a big difference in conversion.

The power of personal communication

People love personal communication! Why? It creates a bond of trust between the writer and the reader. You feel understood. And that is also very important in these crazy corona times: connection.

A reader who feels connected to a text will also read that text more easily and understand it faster. But how do you make your message truly personal? And how do you ensure that you build a bond of trust with your reader? Below we give three short tips with which you can ensure that you can make a real connection with your target audience.

Tip 1: Ask questions that involve the reader
Tip 2: Write in spoken language
Tip 3: Choose emotion

Involving the reader in your text is very important when you want to write a personal text. You already saw it above: we asked you some direct questions to think about:
"People love personal communication! Why?"
, "But how do you make your message truly personal?"
and "How do you ensure that you build a bond of trust with your reader?"

These questions prompt you to think and ensure that you pause for a moment at the question you are reading. You pause and reflect. How do I think about this? When a question is asked, it takes over the thought process. Right? That is the power of asking a question, you involve the reader and simulate the feeling of a conversation.

When you want to involve your reader in your story, it is best not to write too formally, but rather truly personally. Use short sentences and not overly complicated words. Speak clear language and keep your target audience in mind. Address them as you would in real life.

So not: "Please upload your invoice in the field below as proof of the costs incurred."
But rather: "Upload your invoice and you will get your money back."

Write texts that touch people, messages that really get through. How do you do this? By using imagery, sayings, and adjectives. You can also use power words. These work on your reptilian brain, but also on the emotional brain and ensure that the reader will take action faster.

For example:
Guaranteed more traffic to your website.
Great tips for entrepreneurs.
Fast results from social media.

So ask questions that involve the reader, write in spoken language, and always choose emotion! These three tips ensure that your communication flows more smoothly and that your message gets through better.
